MONITORING AND EVALUATION IN NAROK COUNTY.
Narok County is predominantly rural, with an agriculture, livestock, and tourism-driven economy. The county’s Maasai population and small-scale traders have significantly benefited from the Hustler Fund's accessible loans.
The objective of M&E in Narok is to monitor repayment and track repayment rates, and also assess the impact of the Fund. The Fund has partnered with local MSEA Youth Fund Officers to collect data and conduct outreach, leveraging existing community structures.
The event took place at Narok North Youth Empowerment Centre, Narok North Sub-County. The event attracted youths, women, and PWDs.
The main challenges experienced in the area revolve around limited digital literacy, poor mobile network coverage, and cultural preferences for cash-based transactions, which affect the fund’s uptake and impact.
The Fund's staff reaffirmed the commitment towards the beneficiaries, which include conducting regular stakeholder forums to gather qualitative feedback from borrowers, addressing region-specific challenges, and Integrate M&E findings into policy adjustments.
However, residents of Narok County agreed to repay their outstanding loans after learning how the credit score/rating might lock out defaulters from accessing mainstream lending institutions.
